Pearland was platted on September 26, 1894, along the railroad south of Houston. The streets around Main and Broadway are the only part of the city where a 1940s cottage, a 1970s ranch and a 2019 infill house can share a block, so the build year has to be read house by house.

What Is Different About These Lots
Much of Pearland is slab-on-grade production housing. The older lots here include pier-and-beam houses with a crawl space, which changes a re-roof in small ways: the attic is often shallower, the framing older and sometimes plank-sheathed rather than plywood-decked, and additions from different decades meet at odd angles.
When the town was small — 1,910 people when it incorporated in 1959 — houses were built one at a time, and their roofs have been replaced one at a time since. There is no single age to plan around.
